TRACE Attended the ATiA Conference

January 15th, 2025
Amanda Lazar presents at the ATiA pre-conference seminar.

The ATiA (Assistive Technology Industry Association) conference is a huge gathering of assistive technology users, professors, parents, and people with disabilities. There are exhibits, seminars, and activities for people to learn all about assistive technology!

Dr. Amanda Lazar, along with other professors from top universities, presented at a pre-conference seminar: Technologies to Support Engagement for Adults Aging with/without Disabilities. This seminar explored aging populations and how their technology-related needs should be examined. Research organizations like TRACE are working on various projects regarding older adults, such as a smart toilet seat and VR and AR for social engagement. The opinions and views of older adults are often overlooked or misunderstood, so these organizations are working to empower older adults to express their needs.

TRACE exhibited with Raising the Floor, a non-profit organization that partners with research organizations to advocate for inclusion in digital technology. They engaged with various researchers, teachers, and therapists and learned about other assistive technology projects, ranging from apps for AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) to educational programs for people with IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities).
